After so much rain it was a little miracle that the sun shone & the daffodils bloomed for this pre wedding shoot with Imogen & Brad in Cornwall park a couple of days ago. Im turned up with this yellow balloon which was a stroke of genius and tied in perfectly with the sun and the daffodils. Cornwall park was chosen as it was a special place Imogens grandfather used to walk every day. Right at the end the balloon broke free and drifted up to the heavens, MAGIC!

Sam Mitchell wins wallace art award

My absolute favorite NZ artist Sam Mitchell (Anna Bibby Gallery) has just won the Wallace Art Award!!! Go Sam! I was spoiled rotten for my last birthday... Dion gave me one of her paintings on perspex titled 'the saint' (a bit of a raunchy affair) and Mum and Dad gave me a beautiful tocan painting. The Karen Walker store in Ponsonby has a couple of her budgies on their glass doors that are worth a look for anyone interested.

Being that I love food, Tilda Swinton, all things Italian it was really easy for me to love this movie. I also managed to escape dreary wet old Auckland for a few hours... and it made me want to learn Italian and go to seafood cooking classes, and visit a field of long grass filled with insects, bella belissima! XX

As soon as I met Teresa & Mark I felt like I had met kindred spirits! And when I found out they were getting ready at Hotel de Brett my heart began to sing. Dion had surprised me with a night there a year or so ago, so I had plenty of time to admire the interiors.... don't you especially love the striped carpet? The interiors are very mid century cool. Also there is a large natural light artrium which came in very handy on the day as outside it was wild and wet. We also had to include the famous art deco bar, of course! Soon to come.... venturing outside into the wild weather & their wedding at Mantells.

Rugby World Cup Rental

Just in case any of you know someone who would like to rent a house during the Rugby World Cup in central Auckland! Only 1KM from the Sky Tower in Freemans Bay. Its a very peaceful spot with a courtyard garden. I have set up a blog of photos here. The highlight of the house is an amazing view of the sky tower while you are having a shower (with the lights off ha ha)

My favorite was to start the day is walk through Western Park with Dion and Eddie (little big ear), a Dizengoff coffee, stopping to chat to all the regular dogs and humans along the way. It feels like we live in a village even though we live in the centre of Auckland.

For my last birthday my lovely sister Kate put together two whole albums. One of all the times we shared together when we were growing up. The other one was full of all the photos our proud Mum took of us wearing matching outfits she had lovingly sewn for us. (Don't you just love vintage photos) Thanks sis, I will treasure them! XX

Ok, now the Northern Club is a classic atmospheric, old world Gentleman's Club with a twist. Ferron Hay Architects have designed a beautiful new extension 'The Wintergarden'. So you get this great contrast of exceptionally classic with extremely contemporary. Now the bad news... sorry folks but you have to know someone who is a member to have a wedding there. But if you do...... it is an incredible venue for a wedding!!! Right down to a very attentive army of wait staff... So here it is, Melissa & Warricks beautiful mid winter wedding....

Oh, I have been so looking forward to showing you these photos from Anna & Grants wedding!
These guys were incredible to work with. I hadn't met them until a few days before the big day as they live in London. You can imagine my excitement when I saw the location of the ceremony which is Anna's Mums house on Waiheke which not only has the most spectacular views....it also styled perfectly for a bridal shoot! Lots of special vintage bits and pieces. Add to that Anna's styling of the wedding details... boy we had so much fun. They both get about London on Vespas so of course we had to do a few photos on her Mums baby blue one!

Charlotte's gorgeous dress is from Tutta Bella on Jervois Rd & was absolutely stunning! Made of silk chiffon it floated when she moved.

Ok. So tell me what you think about—and this is totally off the wall—what do you think about the element of magic in a work of art. I mention it because I think it’s definitely there in some of your music and some of your…

Well, there’s definitely a shamanistic aspect to creation because, you know, a lot of creation is partially one’s own ability and intelligence, one’s sense of vision. Another aspect is the channeling aspect. That’s where mysticism comes in to play--channeling what people call God, or nature; or if you’re performing, channeling people in the audience. Or you might be channeling Michelangelo, or Walt Whitman or Jesus Christ. Many of the artists and the people we believe in have even offered this. Christ said, “Lo, I am with you always even until the end of the world.” Walt Whitman said, “Young poet, two hundred years from now, I am with you.” In terms of creating, the word magic is a beautiful word, and certainly I’m aware of that all of the time. But I don’t rely on it because sometimes we’re on our own. I can look at the photographs I take and some seem like they have an extra thing that makes them special. Even recording, when I recorded “Horses” I can tell you that in “Birdland,” specifically, I felt entered by this thing--it doesn’t mean that the other songs are lesser, it just means that “Birdland” was the song I was performing when I felt entered by this specific energy.

So it was a doorway?

Yes, a certain portal. So absolutely, it’s not even something to believe or disbelieve in, it just exists as a kind of alchemy where you transform nothing into something. Or, as a performer, it’s when you transport people’s energy into something else. There are times when I’m performing when I want them to give me some of their energy, not to control them, but I so can transform it and give it back to them. It’s like the figure eight, the infinity symbol, the pouring in and the pouring out. It’s the part of the alchemical process that is also part of the performing process and the creative process.

It was so exciting for me to photograph Beau & Sangita's stunning Indian wedding. As you can see are they the most gorgeous couple, but they are just incredibly lovely and gracious too. I had to pinch myself to remember that I was in Auckland. Definitely the most exotic wedding of the year!
